Abstract: This paper,taking Linfen in Shanxi Province as an example,discusses the problem in the application of the present preliminary judgment condition of saturated soil liquefaction to loess areas.It is pointed out that in a low terrace zone consisting of Q3 strata in a loess area, we should not only depend on geological age to eliminate the probability of liquefaction in primary determination of saturated soil liquefac-non.The evaluation vshould be made by conbining with other conditions and formulas.
