Abstract: The differences and similarities of two terms self-calibration and calibration, which one commonly used in earthquake industry and another used in metrology are discussed in this paper.The effects of self-calibration which to guarantee the observation quality of earthquake instrumentations is analyzed.The legal status of calibration to ensure consistency of unit and preciseness of observation result of earthquake instrumentation is emphasized.
